Cancun’s beach restoration, which started in September and is costing about $71 million, is now expected to be completed Feb. 10.

Two thousand tons of pipeline material was brought to Cancun, and the project is expected to transport 1.3 billion gallons (6.1 million cubic meters) of sand to replenish Cancun’s beach along the hotel zone.

Adverse weather conditions have caused delays; as of Dec. 1, about 23% of the beach restoration was completed, according to the Mexican Tourism Board.

The work was originally scheduled for completion the first week of December.
