I was fortunate to be one of the travel agents invited to the ’sneak preview’ of the new Sandals Emerald Bay. I can’t think of enough words to describe it.  Amazing. Serene.  Beautiful. Upscale. From my corner of the world I took four planes on the outbound and four planes on the inbound.  When one client asked me if it was worth it ~ the answer is absolutely YES !!!  I have to smile with those of you who are spoiled with non-stop flites.

 

The resort is not exactly what one expects from Sandals .  .  .  no buffets, no playmakers . .  .  yet you still have the  quality, quantity and service that sends you to a Sandals in the first place ~ plus a Butler for each and every suite! The food is excellent with outstanding presentations.  They even have a dessert bar with Molten Lava cakes for us chocolate lovers. You will find a swim-up pool bar with your lounges right near by.  If you want to get away from the crowd there are plenty of places to go including a “quiet pool”. The beach is incredible with white powder sand awaiting that early morning walk or a day of relaxation looking at  the sea of what they call Exuma Blue. 

 

I took a four hour tour to several of the Cays that surround Great Exuma and the opportunity for water adventures is untold.  One of the tours takes you to a private beach on a small island where you can be dropped off for the day with food and beverage or any other amenity that you desire.  Talk about a day of privacy and romance in a castaway style.  I have pictures of that beach if you care to see them.

 

The golf course designed by Greg Norman (who was on property when I was there) is very challenging and golfers should enjoy it a lot (additional cost). The Golf Channel is there now filming for a show that will air in June.

 

Mr. Stewart, the Chairman of Sandals offered me a ride his private helicopter so I could take in the full view of the property and the island.  Absolutely breathtaking!  The first picture I attached here is from the sky.

 

As with any new property they are going through their “dress rehearsal”  as the additions and the “Sandalization” is coming to fruition. Over four days I saw new things completed and packages unwrapped with the latest in water equipment and finishing touches.  It will still be a work in progress for several weeks and yet I enjoyed every single minute I was there.

Dino’s Pizzeria, Bite into crisp gourmet pizzas, expertly prepared in a wood-fired oven and laden with your choice of delectable toppings, from savory prosciutto with roasted red pepper to sweet banana with gorgonzola. Pizzeria is open from 11:00am-6:00pm (7 days).  

The Drunken Duck Pub, Cross the Atlantic the instant you enter this authentic Irish pub, complete with carved wooden walls, rich wooden benches, genuine cricket paraphernalia and a clubby billiards room. Sample the best traditional Irish pub fare this side of the Pond as you drink in the warm, hearty ambiance of this British enclave. Lunch and dinner is served 4:00pm-2:00am (7 days). Full dinner menu is served 6:30pm-10:00pm (7days). Afternoon Tea (Croquet Lawn) is served Monday and Wednesday 3:00pm-4:00pm.  

Bahama Bay, As the sun rises in the East, this casual dining setting offers five types of breakfast from around the world featuring items from Turkey, Mexico, Japan, Britain, and the Caribbean. As the sun sets in the West, guests will enjoy the ultimate in Mediterranean cuisine with a Caribbean flare. Semi a-la-carte breakfast is served 7:00am-10:30am. Barefoot By The Sea, Bask in impeccable white glove service and dig your toes into satin-like sand, as you feast on sublime fresh seafood. Ocean waves serenade you in this beguiling spot set directly on the beach. Only a quaint Caribbean thatched roof separates you from a night sky overflowing with stars and glowing with the light of the moon.
